JUNE WAS A BUSY, EXCITING MONTH FOR SECRET CITY SQUARES! ALONG WITH CLAXTON COUNTRY SQUARES, WE ENJOYED DOING A FANTASTIC DEMO FOR THE "SECRET CITY FESTIVAL" IN OAK RIDGE. THAT NIGHT WE CELEBRATED OUR SECOND ANNIVERSARY WITH ELEVEN-PLUS SQUARES! EVERYONE APPEARED TO HAVE A FUN EVENING OF DANCING TO JACK & RALPH (WHO WERE DEFINITELY AT THEIR BEST THAT NIGHT), A LOT OF SOCIALIZING WITH GOOD FRIENDS -- AND INDULGING IN A LOT OF GREAT FOOD!! IN JULY WE'LL CELEBRATE THE BIRTHDAY OF OUR GREAT NATION WITH A "RED, WHITE & BLUE" CELEBRATION. PLEASE NOTE THAT SECRET CITY SQUARES WILL GO "DARK" IN SEPTEMBER AS OUR CALLER AND MANY LOCAL DANCERS SET SAIL FOR ANOTHER FUN "LOAD THE BOAT" CRUISE. KEEP A WATCH ON THIS SITE FOR INFORMATION ON UPCOMING DANCES & EVENTS AND DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS IN OUR PHOTO GALLERY!

WELCOME TO THE SECRET CITY SQUARES' HOME PAGE
Who are SQUARE DANCERS? People who grew up but never forgot how to relax and have fun! People with enough affection to share with others who delight in music and fellowship. They may not agree on politics, religion or the arts; they may not agree on foods to eat or cars to drive -- but they all agree on the sense of community they share and the smiles on their faces when they hear, "Square 'em up!" or "Yellow Rock!"
Western square dance was declared "Tennessee State Dance" in 1980; in 1982, the 97th U.S. Congress unanimously passed a resolution designating square dance as the national folk dance of the U.S. Today, square dancing is taught -- in English -- around the world and truly unites us in a global activity!
Square dancing has long been endorsed for its benefits to physical, mental and emotional well-being. We invite you to visit the Secret City Squares at one of our monthly dances at the YWCA in Oak Ridge, TN. We dance every second Saturday of the month, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Lessons are available every Tuesday, beginning at 7:00. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age -- if you can walk, you can square dance.
